We have combined the impressive Waddesdon Manor with the less visited gems of the region Castle Ashby and Rockingham Castle on this tour, plus a trip on the Grand Union Canal.
Thursday: We visit Cambridge today en route to our hotel, arriving late afternoon.
Friday: Today we visit Waddesdon Manor, this stunning house was once home of the Rothschild family. Built in the style of a French Chateau, this opulent house and extravagant interiors include exquisite furniture, porcelain, paintings and carpets. The gardens are extensive, including formally laid beds, water gardens, an aviary garden, elegant sculptures and fountains.
Saturday: This morning we travel to Stoke Bruerne for a short canal boat trip on the Grand Union Canal. Our day continues with a visit to Castle Ashby Gardens. Castle Ashby is the ancestral home of the 7th Marquess of Northampton. Set in the heart of a 10,000-acre estate; the 35 acres of extensive gardens are a combination of several styles including the romantic Italian Gardens, the unique Orangery and impressive Arboretum. The Walled Garden Tea Room offers a relaxing and welcoming environment for all to enjoy.
Sunday: We enjoy a leisurely start this morning with a scenic drive around Rutland Water before visiting the remarkable Rockingham Castle, a former royal castle and hunting lodge in Rockingham Forest. Built on the instruction of William the Conqueror and frequented by Charles Dickens, the castle has been in the current owner’s family for 450 years.
Monday: After breakfast we check-out of our hotel making our way home with a visit to the cathedral city of Ely, which completes our holiday.
