Our tour explores the stunning Castles and landscapes of the beautiful Scottish Borders, historic Edinburgh and the revolutionary concept of a boat lift – the Falkirk Wheel.
Monday: From local pick-up points we make our way north, arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.
Tuesday: This morning we visit the stunning Floors Castle, Scotland’s largest inhabited castle with its collection of fine art, porcelain, tapestries, grand rooms and wonderful gardens. We then continue on to the nearby town of Kelso with free time to explore.
Wednesday: Today we visit New Lanark, and its award winning World Heritage Site to discover the fascinating history of this impressive cotton mill village. We visit the ‘Annie McLeod Experience’ and see working textile machinery, the Millworkers’ House, Robert Owen’s House, the Roof Garden, the Village Store and Robert Owen’s School. We return to Peebles in the afternoon for time at leisure.
Thursday: We travel to Edinburgh today, after a short orientation tour you are at leisure. You might choose to visit the magnificent 12th century Castle containing the Scottish Crown Jewels, perched atop an extinct volcano, maybe pay a visit to the Scotch Whiskey Experience or just wander freely. After lunch we visit the Falkirk Wheel for a 50 minute journey on the boat as it sails smoothly from the Falkirk Wheel onto the Union Canal before returning to the visitor centre. After our visit here we return to the hotel through the borders countryside.
Friday: After breakfast we check-out of the hotel and make our way back home.
