On this exciting tour we enjoy a fantastic cruise along the Manchester Ship Canal, a nostalgic train journey, a visit to Bury Transport Museum and an entertaining tour of the BBC Studios at Salford Quays.

Thursday: We travel north to our hotel after collection from our local pick up points, where we have a welcome tea or coffee on arrival whilst our luggage is transported to our rooms.

Friday: Today we embark on a six hour cruise accompanied by lively commentary along the Manchester Ship Canal. Travelling through locks and bridges that have remained largely unchanged since their construction over 100 years ago, we gain a revealing insight into the facts, history and dramas of one of Britain’s major waterways.

Saturday: This morning we travel to Rawtenstall for a nostalgic trip on the East Lancashire Railway to the market town of Bury. We visit the Transport Museum which is located across the road from the station and displays a wide selection of restored vehicles. From Bury we travel to the popular town of Wilmslow which we can explore at leisure.

Sunday: After breakfast we travel to Salford for our tour of the BBC at Media City UK. We walk in the footsteps of some of our favourite celebrities as the studios are home to many popular channels and programmes such as Match of the Day, Blue Peter, A Question of Sport, Mastermind, BBC Breakfast, Radio 5 live, CBBC, BBC Sport and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, to name just a few. Well-informed and friendly tour guides will entertain and surprise us, giving us a fascinating insight into how TV and radio work.

Monday: This morning we leave our hotel travelling through the rugged peat covered moorlands and magnificent limestone dales of the Peak District as we make our way home.

The 4 star Mercure Manchester Norton Grange Hotel and Spa is set in tranquil countryside and its own landscaped grounds with views of the Pennines. All rooms are equipped with a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. There are 3 steps down to the well-sized, elegant restaurant, which overlooks the gardens and a bar and outside seating. Excellent leisure facilities include steam/sauna areas, an indoor swimming pool and gym.
