Our holiday is based in the little Cheshire village of Pott Shrigley and includes many highlights of the Peak District, Derbyshire and Cheshire. We have included visits to Chatsworth House, Crich Tramway Museum and Lyme Park.
Sunday: From local pick-up points we make our way north to our hotel arriving late afternoon.
Monday: Today we visit the historic market town of Buxton, renowned for its healing waters and Pavilion Gardens set in 23 acres of Victorian landscaping. From here we continue to Lyme Park and step back in time to the Edwardian age – Lyme’s ‘Golden Era’. Enjoy the house with its lavish interiors, beautiful gardens and enchanting lake where a certain Mr Darcy appeared in the BBC’s production of Pride and Prejudice.
Tuesday: This morning we travel to Crich Tramway Village, a lovingly restored period village that is also home to the National Tramway Museum. Exhibitions bring to life the history of the tram and visitors can ride on the restored tramways. Other attractions include a workshop and viewing gallery, an old fashioned sweet shop and a restored public house. Following our visit we continue to the pretty town of Ashbourne for a little leisure time.
Wednesday: After breakfast we visit Chatsworth House and Gardens; the magnificent home of the Devonshire family. With something for everyone to enjoy from world famous works of art and spectacular fountains to elegant shops. After our visit here we continue into the Peak District passing Ladybower Reservoir and the Derwent Dam, where the Dam Busters Squadron practiced their bouncing bomb manoeuvres during WWII.
