The Isle of Wight is a delightful place to visit, located 4 miles from England’s south coast. Over half is recognised as an area of natural beauty with nearly 30 miles of shoreline designated as Heritage Coast.
Monday: We make our way to Portsmouth for the short ferry crossing to Fishbourne. On arrival at the hotel, enjoy a welcome drink whilst luggage is taken to rooms.
Tuesday: We take a scenic coach tour around the island today; the views and scenery are stunning. We visit the famous Needles Rocks and Alum Bay chairlift, operating from the cliff-top down to the beach below and Trinity Lighthouse – one of the Isle of Wight’s famous landmarks. We also visit the historic port of Yarmouth, home to a 16th century castle and a grade 2 listed pier.
Wednesday: Today we visit Brading Roman Villa which offers a unique insight into Roman life in Britain, including a beautifully preserved mosaic floor (please note there is a walk from the coach park to this attraction). Next, we visit Rosemary Vineyard where we tour the winery and sample some of the wines, juices, liqueurs and ciders that are produced here.
Thursday: Our first visit today is to Mottistone Gardens with colourful herbaceous borders and a tranquil sheltered rose garden to relax in. One of the National Trust’s most southerly ‘dry’ gardens it uses a Mediterranean-style of planting where meandering paths pass shrub filled banks and grassy terraces en route to the gardens higher levels and far reaching views. The organic kitchen garden employ’s 'companion planting' to deter pests. Our next visit is to the quintessential English Village of Godshill, it has a delightful medieval church, charming thatched-roofed cottages and a winding main-street lined with traditional tearooms which we will be able to explore.
Friday: Our final full day is an opportunity for you to explore at your leisure. Maybe just relax, explore Ryde or perhaps take the train from the station opposite our hotel to another part of the island.
Saturday: After breakfast we check-out of the hotel and make our way back home.
The Royal Esplanade Hotel is located in a superb seaside location, close to the promenade in the heart of the pretty resort of Ryde. The hotel restaurant overlooks the promenade with separate bar and lounge areas with regular entertainment provided. It also has a lift but there are steps into the hotel and to access some rooms.
