East and West Sussex are rich in history and culture. Our tour features visits to Battle Abbey, Pashley Manor Gardens, the Old Dairy Brewery and a journey on the Kent & East Sussex Railway.

Monday: We make our way through the Kent countryside to our hotel, arriving with time to relax before dinner.

Tuesday: This morning we visit historic Battle Abbey for a tour of the Abbey ruins which stand on the very spot where the armies of King Harold and William the Conqueror clashed at the Battle of Hastings. We also see the Victorian walled garden, visitor centre and Abbey Gatehouse. The afternoon is spent at the sumptuous Pashley Manor Gardens where we see romantic English landscaping at its best – delight in the tranquil vistas, sweeping herbaceous borders, historic walled gardens, kitchen garden and woodland paths.

Wednesday: Today we travel to the historic port town of Rye for free time to explore the quaint streets and lunch in one of the many lovely tea rooms or restaurants. Returning to Folkestone in the afternoon, you might take a stroll along the front to the Leas Lift, one of the oldest water lifts in the UK, carrying passengers between the seafront and the promenade.

Thursday: We visit the picturesque market town of Tenterden today, including a guided tour and tasting at the award winning Old Dairy Brewery. We then stroll a few yards to embark on a return train journey to Bodiam on the Kent & East Sussex Railway whilst enjoying a Ploughman’s lunch, after which we have time to explore Tenterden a little more.

Friday: After breakfast we depart our hotel for a visit to Canterbury whose ancient walls originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. After discovering the hidden gems of this world famous cathedral city we make our way home to East Anglia.

The Burlington Hotel, a charming Victorian hotel set in tranquil surroundings at the West end of Folkstone and overlooking the English Channel. Each room comes with a modern, flat screen TV with Freeview, all have free internet access, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities and a lift.
