Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Monday

Depart from your local pick-up point and travel to the North East. On arrival at the hotel, enjoy a warm welcome with tea, coffee, and biscuits before settling into your room.

  2. Day 2

    Tuesday

Today’s excursion takes us through some of Yorkshire’s most dramatic landscapes. Travelling across the moors via Blakey Ridge and the picturesque village of Hutton-le-Hole, we arrive in Pickering. Here we board the famous North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a memorable steam train journey through the heart of the moors to Whitby. Along the way, we pass through Goathland, better known to many as Aidensfield from the television series Heartbeat. In Whitby, enjoy free time to explore this historic maritime town. Wander its narrow streets and bustling harbour or climb the famous steps to the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey.

  3. Day 3

    Wednesday

This morning we visit the historic market town of Richmond, beautifully situated on the banks of the River Swale. Explore its cobbled marketplace, impressive castle, and fascinating museums, including exhibits associated with All Creatures Great and Small. Later, we enjoy a nostalgic journey aboard the Wensleydale Railway, travelling through the picturesque Yorkshire countryside from Leyburn to Leeming Bar. After rejoining our coach, we continue to Thirsk, forever associated with the famous veterinary author James Herriot. Enjoy free time to explore this attractive market town before returning to the hotel.

  4. Day 4

    Thursday

Our first visit today is to Preston Park Museum & Grounds. Set within beautiful parkland, the museum offers a fascinating glimpse into life in Victorian Britain, including its recreated cobbled high street filled with traditional shops and businesses. From nearby Preston Hall, we board the Teesside Princess for a relaxing cruise along the River Tees to the historic town of Yarm. Famous for its picturesque riverside location and impressive railway viaduct, Yarm offers plenty of character and charm. This afternoon we enjoy a scenic drive through Bilsdale, often referred to as ‘Little Switzerland’, before passing the magnificent ruins of Rievaulx Abbey. We then visit the attractive market town of Helmsley, overlooked by its impressive medieval castle. Our return journey takes us over the spectacular Sutton Bank, renowned for its breathtaking views across the Vale of York and the North York Moors.

  5. Day 5

    Friday

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Yorkshire and begin our journey home, taking with us wonderful memories of heritage railways, scenic landscapes, and charming market towns.
