Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Monday

Depart from your local pick-up point and travel to Kent, arriving at the Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel late afternoon. Settle into your room and enjoy dinner before the days of exploration ahead.

  2. Day 2

    Tuesday

This morning we visit the charming village of Chilham, one of Kent’s prettiest and most historic villages. Situated on the ancient pilgrims’ route to Canterbury, its picturesque square is lined with half-timbered houses that once formed part of the nearby castle estate. We then continue to the historic cathedral city of Canterbury. Dominated by the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, the compact city centre is a delight to explore with its medieval streets, specialist shops, and welcoming cafés. Enjoy free time to discover this fascinating city at your own pace.

  3. Day 3

    Wednesday

Today’s excursion begins with a scenic drive through the Sussex countryside to the village of Bodiam. Here we board the historic Kent & East Sussex Railway for a nostalgic steam train journey to the attractive market town of Tenterden. There will be time to explore and enjoy lunch in one of the town’s tea rooms or cafés. In the afternoon, we visit the renowned Sissinghurst Castle Garden, created by celebrated writer Vita Sackville-West and her husband, Harold Nicolson. Designed as a series of intimate garden rooms, highlights include the famous White Garden and Rose Garden, making Sissinghurst one of Britain’s most treasured horticultural masterpieces.

  4. Day 4

    Thursday

This morning we visit the historic town of Rochester. With its magnificent cathedral, Norman castle, and atmospheric cobbled streets, Rochester is steeped in history and closely associated with the novelist Charles Dickens. Enjoy time to explore the High Street and obtain lunch at leisure. Later, we visit the spectacular Leeds Castle, often described as “the loveliest castle in the world.” Set on two islands in the River Len and surrounded by beautiful parkland, the castle boasts over 900 years of history. Explore the sumptuous interiors and discover the stories of the many royal and aristocratic families who called it home.

  5. Day 5

    Friday

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Kent and begin our journey home, taking with us wonderful memories of historic towns, magnificent gardens, and some of England’s finest heritage attractions.
