We explore Yorkshire on this tour featuring outstanding scenery full of meadows and drystone walls. It is known for the author James Herriot and traditional spa towns, Yorkshire is always a popular destination.
Monday: After collection from our local pick-up points, we travel to our hotel.in the Spa town of Harrogate. We are greeted with a welcome tea or coffee on arrival.
Tuesday: There will be free time for you to explore Harrogate and maybe visit the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms this morning, before commencing our visit to RHS Harlow Carr. These gardens were designed to reflect the Yorkshire landscape of dry-stone walls, water features and dappled shaded woodlands.
Wednesday: Today our excursion is to the market town of Thirsk, and step into “The World of James Herriot”, we see where this famous vet, lived, worked and wrote his incredibly successful series of books including ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ based on his experiences as a young North Yorkshire vet. We follow this with a scenic drive to Ripon with its majestic cathedral, through Nidderdale an area of outstanding beauty and Grassington, before returning to Harrogate.
Thursday: After breakfast our destination is the magnificent Harewood House, set in 100 acres of beautiful gardens created by “Capability” Brown. We discover upstairs & downstairs as we learn about the family and life below stairs, before exploring the grounds including the bird garden with birds from all over the world.
Friday: This morning it is time to head home, making our way back to East Anglia.
